What is the Smalltown Boy dance trend?

A short vertical video set to Bronski Beat's 1984 synth-pop song "Smalltown Boy". One person fakes a dramatic crying breakdown at the camera while a friend dances behind, they swap, and when the beat drops both stop crying and dance together. It spread under the caption "Don't cry. Dance!"

What photos work best?

One person or one pet per photo, face clearly visible, good light, no heavy filters. Waist-up shots give the most accurate outfits; for pets, a clear front view of the face and fur works best. Only upload photos of people who agreed to be in the video.

How long does a video take?

Usually 3 to 8 minutes. You can close the page; finished videos are saved in History.

How much does Smalltown Boy AI cost?

Each video uses 20 credits. Monthly plans add fresh credits every month and save up to 33% when billed yearly. One-time packs are $8.90 for 1 video, $22.90 for 3 and $49.90 for 8 (as low as $6.24 per video), and pack credits never expire. There is no free tier.

What if a generation fails?

Your credits go back to your balance automatically and you can try again.

Which AI model makes the videos?

Seedance 2.5, ByteDance's video model. It follows a six-shot storyboard of the trend and keeps both faces and outfits from your photos.

Can I post my Smalltown Boy dance video?

Yes, videos have no watermark. The audio is a commercial song, so TikTok, Instagram and YouTube may treat it like any other clip that uses licensed music.

Can my pet do the Smalltown Boy dance?

Yes. Switch the photo to Pet and your cat, dog or any other animal becomes an upright, human-like dancer with its own fur and markings. It cries with its ears down and dances on two legs. You can mix a person and a pet.

The Smalltown Boy dance, shot by shot

Every video follows the same six shots as the original trend. The AI gets a separate direction for each one, so the timing, the camera and the faces land where they should.

010–7s
A breaks down
Close to the lens, hands on the head, a silent wail. B dances behind without a care.
027–14.3s
B breaks down
Hard cut, roles swap. B grabs their hair and screams; A dances happily in the back.
0314.3–16.4s
The beat drops
Tears gone. Side by side, slightly from above, both dance in sync.
0416.4–18.1s
Low angle
Camera on the ground, sky above the fence, stomping on the beat.
0518.1–19.7s
Full body
Eye level, both bounce and shimmy, grinning.
0619.7–22s
Reach for the lens
From above, both lean in and grab at the camera to the last frame.
